Local Funding Paves the Way to Lifelong Health & Wellness

The support of the Johnson County Recreation District and the Wyoming Community Foundation paved the way to an unprecedented expansion of the fitness facilities at the Johnson County Family YMCA.

With their generous financial support we were able to expand the Cardio Room and repurpose one of the racquetball courts into a dedicated Cycling Studio. The project was started in late 2018 and was finally completed in early March 2019.

The Cycling Studio

The new dedicated cycling studio includes 13 spin bikes, with 7 of those being brand new machines. The space was renovated to include custom mirrors, a new sound system, acoustic panels, electrical work, an egress door, storage solutions for class participants and custom benches to make changing shoes a breeze before and after class.

You can experience the expansion first hand at one of our free classes:

  • Group Cycle: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 5:15 – 6:15 AM with Lisa Griffith
  • Group Cycle: Monday and Wednesday 5:15 – 6:00 PM with Patti Dunn

The Cardio Room

The newly expanded Cardio Room is home to nearly twice the equipment and a stretching area that we did not offer before the project was completed. We can now accommodate more people and offer machines that cater to varying fitness levels.

The new equipment purchased for the expanded Cardio Room includes the following thanks to the Johnson County Rec District and the Wyoming Community Foundation:

  • 2 – Integrity SX Recumbent Bike (Rec)
  • 2 – IC5 Exercise bike (Rec)
  • 1 – Theraband Station (Rec)
  • 1 – Balance Bar (Rec)
  • 1 – Integrity DX Cross Trainer (elliptical) (WCF)
  • 1 – Integrity Treadmill (WCF)
  • 1 – SciFit Pro2 total body exerciser (WCF)
  • 1 – Spirit Medical MS300 Semi-recumbent total body stepper (WCF)

The Wyoming Community Foundation also provided funding along with Cetera Advisor Networks for a Hammer Strength Select Seated Leg Press for the weight room.

Imagine the possibilities

The Y has long been a mainstay for the fitness-seekers in our community. But not everyone is comfortable in a gym setting nor does fitness equipment offer a one-size-fits-all solution for everyone.

Some of the new equipment offers pass-through access and a low impact experience to better serve anyone interested in pursuing health and wellness at the Y. We are also actively involved in conversations with the hospital and local physical therapy clinics to identify ways our equipment can serve more people in the community.

We welcome you to drop by to tour the facility. We’re always happy to give tours and explain how you can find your best self here at the Y.
