March Evening Lessons | Level 1

Johnson County Family YMCA
3/5/24 - 3/28/24
VIEW

This is the beginning group of our swim education program!

Level 1 students are new to the water and may not be very familiar or comfortable in the water. We will be introducing them to simple movements in the water: submerging their entire bodies, kicking, splashing, and some self-rescue skills with the instructor.

If your child is able to go underwater voluntarily, consider signing them up for the next level. If your child just needs a refresher that’s ok too!

March Evening Lessons | Level 1.5

Johnson County Family YMCA
3/5/24 - 3/28/24
VIEW

Level 1.5 is right in the middle between Level 1 and Level 2.

In this class they should be able to submerge their faces and feel relatively comfortable in the water. We will be introducing more arm movements, making sure legs are behind them when kicking, and slowly being more independent jumping in. We will emphasize floating on their backs, gliding forwards while blowing bubbles, and simple confidence.

March Evening Lessons | Level 2

Johnson County Family YMCA
3/5/24 - 3/28/24
VIEW

The level 2 group will expand on what the students learned in Level 1 or Level 1.5!

It is very important that the child be confident in the water to best progress in Level 2 skills. We will be going over more complex movements in the water: incorporating side breathing, structured arm movements, forward and backward progression, and being more comfortable jumping into the water in all depths. To move up to Level 3, they will need to be able to do both back stroke and front a short distance independently.

In level 3, the students will be developing endurance and more technical skills to swim across the width of the pool independently. We will introduce different strokes, breathing techniques, and treading water. Students enrolled in this level should be able to push off the wall on their front and back and be able to swim 10 feet.
